Importance of Nonverbal Communication Within My Job

I work with children daily, it can be difficult to understand children that cannot communicate with their voice. I have to look the child in the eyes and try to understand their wants and needs without hearing them talk. The children use gestures to show when they are happy such as: laughing and smiling. The children also, use gestures when they are sad such as: crying and frowning. It is important for me to understand these gestures so, I can figure out what the child needs. It is extremely important to understand nonverbal communication when it comes to children because children can become frustrated when they do not get what they want.

Nonverbal Communication

 Definition: Communication Using No Words

Examples: Types of Gestures: Smiling or Frowning, Widen eyes, Wearing Jewelry, Touching Someone, and Raising your Voice.

Today, in class, we watched many different videos of Mr. Bean's character. Mr. Bean communicates through the use of nonverbal gestures and communication. Mr. Bean reminded me of my favorite cartoon as a child: Tom and Jerry.

Tom and Jerry speak only through nonverbal communication yet, I still understand the cartoon even as a child.

I am going to show you my favorite video of Tom and Jerry as a child. ↓

Two Truths and One Lie

We did an activity in the class called two truths and a lie. I thought this activity gave students a voice and showed that other people listen to them. It was a way for other students to express themselves and show another side of themselves. It was a beneficial activity to many. I enjoyed this activity because we got to learn different things about other people that we may or may not have known before. I believe it expressed our listening skills very well as a group of students. 😛

TRY TO HAVE POSTIVE AFFIRMATIONS INSTEAD OF NEGATIVE AFFIRMATIONS

Johari Window

My Traits 👐

In class, we learned about the “four selves” found in the Johari Window. The first one is called open self which is information about yourself that you and others know. The second one is the blind self which is information about yourself that you don’t know but that others do know. The third one is the hidden self which is information that you know but others don’t know. The last one is the unknown self which is information about yourself that neither you nor others know. The Johari Window is important because it is a model of interpersonal awareness. People need to understand this because it helps us become more self-aware and help us work better with others. After doing the Johari Window in class I realized that my traits that are unknown to others are good traits to have. I would like more people to see my traits instead of having them hidden for others to not be able to see. When doing this activity I found that I should be more open to other people so they can see my hidden talents. I want more people to see my positive qualities and I want to work on seeing more of my positive qualities in myself as well. I want to be more aware and live in positive situations instead of negative situations. 😁
